The Ambon Blue Tongue Skink, scientific name Tiliqua scincoides, is a species of lizard native to the island of Ambon in Indonesia.
They are a relatively large lizard, with adults measuring between 18-24 inches (45-60 cm) in length. They have a broad, flattened body and a short, stocky tail. Their skin is a light brown or grey color with darker brown or black markings.
As their name suggests, Ambon Blue Tongue Skinks have a blue tongue, which they use to deter predators. When threatened, they will open their mouth wide to display their bright blue tongue, which can startle predators and give the skink a chance to escape.
Ambon Blue Tongue Skinks are omnivorous, meaning they eat both plant and animal matter. In the wild, they will eat a variety of insects, fruits, and vegetation. As pets, they can be fed a diet of commercially available cat/dog food and other diets, supplemented with fresh fruits and vegetables.
Ambon Blue Tongue Skinks are relatively easy to care for as pets, but require a specialized setup with a basking spot, hiding areas, and access to clean water. They are also social animals and benefit from interaction with their owners.
